Santa Fe Somatics blends osteopathic treatment with somatic coaching to resolve trauma and pain that have calcified and become stuck in the body.

Services

We all have patterning that has shaped our growth since birth. In trauma, many responses can arise in the body, all of which are intelligent and adaptive in the moment. We might, for example, rigidify ourselves in the presence of unrelenting oppressive conditions, we might dissociate from our bodies, or we might become calcified around particular experiences of shock. These adaptive responses contribute to the shape we carry forward.

In the work we do together at Santa Fe Somatics, we will begin to bravely “shape it back.” This work will return us safely into the ease of the body through hands-on bodywork, somatic practices, and collaborative visioning toward new ways of moving in the world.

Osteopathic
Treatment

An osteopathic practitioner fundamentally trusts in the health of the patient. All techniques are performed with a view to unblocking restrictions that might be impeding the full expression of health. Our focus is on restoring motion wherever motion has been disturbed.

No matter what the concern (e.g., chronic pain, digestive issues, sleep dysfunction, anxiety, depression), osteopathy seeks to treat the underlying causes by locating that concern within the balance of the whole body.

Especially effective at re-balancing the autonomic nervous system, which is responsible for the fight/flight/freeze/fawn response, osteopathy is an important element of any successful and lasting trauma therapy.

Danielle undertook her osteopathic training at the Collège d'Études Ostéopathiques in Canada. Her thesis on trauma-informed practice in osteopathy won the award for best qualitative thesis.

Danielle can do what medications cannot. After struggling with a cough and shortness of breath for months, with a single treatment my airways opened up. I don’t fully understand the mechanics of it, but I could feel my chest area relax and was suddenly able to take a full breath. Previously, such an attempt would have ended in a coughing fit. With a better ability to breathe, and so to sleep uninterruptedly, my spirits were lifted too. I am so grateful to her and appreciative of the work she does!

a path of healing and purpose

Somatic
Coaching

Our responses to trauma and systemic oppression can take root in our bodies, individually and collectively, as deep contractions that time does not necessarily heal. These survival responses begin as wonderfully intelligent armoring strategies. However, as these contractions gradually become our default practice, they can become rigid and intrusive, ultimately limiting our access to empowerment and joy.

We need to be able to feel these “old shapes” of rigidity before we can begin to shift them toward a “new shape”. This shift happens through practice: centering, boundary work, making requests, and extending are examples of how we practice ourselves toward something more aligned with our values.

In somatic healing, we take on the challenging and beautiful work of safely de-armoring the embodied practices that no longer serve us and moving toward what we desire.

This interview with Generative Somatics practitioner and teacher Sumitra Rajkumar explores the question “What is Somatics?”
